Key Partnerships

The toolkit has been built and supported by the following organisations working in partnership. This will continue as we look to develop this resource and expand the role of the Education Development Worker. The following explains what each organisation does:

Cathedrals Plus

Cathedrals Plus offers support and training focusing on education and visitor services for Cathedrals and greater Churches. As well as providing a conduit for relationships with central government and policy makers, the Association promotes interfaith engagement and understanding. It shares and champions good practice, supporting the professional development of staff and volunteers involved in service delivery.

Cathedrals as Partners in Adult Learning

Cathedrals as Partners in Adult Learning (CPAL) is an initiative of Cathedrals Plus and NIACE, supporting the development of informal adult learning opportunities. It achieves this through working - and promoting partnerships - with a range of organisations across sectors. Cathedrals Plus employs a part-time CPAL Education Development Worker to support partners in identifying and meeting adult learning needs. Administrative support is provided by NIACE.

The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education

The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) is an independent non-governmental organisation and charity. Its corporate and individual members come from a range of places where adults learn: in further education colleges, local community settings, universities, workplaces and prisons. The ends to which NIACE activities are directed can be summarised as being to secure more, different and better opportunities for adult learners. NIACE is a leading voice in lifelong learning and represents the interests of all learners, advocating increased opportunities for adult learning and for better quality provision. It is particularly concerned to advance the interests of those who have benefited least from their initial education and training.

The Association of English Cathedrals

The Association of English Cathedrals (AEC) is the ‘trade association’ for the 42 English Anglican Cathedrals, and also has, as associate members, Westminster Abbey and St George’s Chapel, Windsor. The AEC represents the interests of Cathedrals to bodies such as the National Church Institutions, Government departments, and English Heritage. It also addresses issues of common interest to Cathedrals and encourages the sharing of best practice within Cathedrals.
